OUR STORY

Where teachers help students learn with confidence

Thrive Tutoring and Learning Coaching came to be when its founder, Chad Krayenhoff, noticed many students struggling due to a lack of one-on-one support from knowledgeable and caring teachers.

Designed to supplement the support already offered by parents and classroom teachers, Thrive is answering the call of all those students who need just a bit more focused support from knowledgeable teaching professionals to thrive through the rough patches in their academic career.

The joy at seeing our students Thrive with careful guidance is, for us, what teaching was always about.

Chad Krayenhoff, M.Ed

I love to learn and have always loved helping others learn. Learning (in all its forms) permits us to reinvent ourselves everyday and grow into who we want to be.

After growing up on Vancouver Island, I moved out to Edmonton to pursue my university studies in French at the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint-Jean where I completed a B.Ed/B.Sc with a major in Math.

Both in high school and in university, I loved to tutor and help my fellow students. The greatest reward was always seeing that lightbulb turn on after some focused hard work!

I turned that passion into a career as a teacher in Alberta for 9 years - first in Jasper and then in St-Albert and Spruce Grove. Throughout my teaching career, I focused my professional learning on Mindset (a concept from Carol Dweck), number sense support (First Steps in Math), as well as activities and assessments that foster deep and mastery-based learning experiences. I always offered my own time to help students one-on-one at lunch or after class - it kept me grounded in the passion that first led me to teaching and was almost always the highlight of my day.

After completing my Masters in Educational Studies at the UofA in 2021, I began contemplating how I could focus my teaching efforts in what I love. Many years of teaching have shown me the need students have for guidance when it feels like the tires are falling off the car for some unknown and terrifying reason. In addition to helping students turn that lightbulb on, I’ve also become passionate about helping students upgrade their learning skills to exceed the challenges they’re facing. My hope for every student is that they leave school with an appreciation for the power of learning as well as an ownership for using it to solve the many problems we face in life.

”If I couldn’t grasp a concept, Chad would be ready to go with 6 different ways to explain it, and could modify the way he would be teaching to different students at all different levels.”

- Ryan D.

”He was eager to help me and was able to clearly explain difficult concepts, making it easier for me to understand them. My one-to-one sessions with him were productive and resourceful.”

- Keandra G.

Here's what students have to say about Chad...

”Chad was always willing to take the time out of his breaks to help me understand any question I asked. His willingness to help improved my grades in other classes as well, because it gave me the confidence to ask for help when I needed it.”

- Emma G.
