Give Them Time
New thoughts are a slow go
LEARNING TIP
We’ve all been there. You’re in a training session of some kind and the presenter asks “Any questions?”. You start to consolidate what you’ve learned and start looking for the pieces that are unclear when the presenter says “Ok. Guess not. Next up, we’re going to…”
Teachers are trained to allow for “wait time”. The idea being that students need more than a couple seconds to figure out a response or come up with a question. This is normal. When we’re learning, our brains are stretching to make connections they didn’t have before. These new connections are like a gravel road - they’re slower than your standard highway.
So? Give your child time as they work on concepts that are new to them. It’s critical they have the time to drive those gravel roads on their own as frequent use is the only way to justify paving them and committing to an understanding of this new concept.
Not sure “wait time” is your jam? Let us help - we are experts at observing and adapting to a student’s learning process. We are masters at guiding students to develop those new brain connections until they have mastery and confidence.
